Coach Interview: Trevor

We spoke to the newest coach at HGFC, Trevor, about what led him to join the team. Trevor is a Level 2 Football Coach and leads our Wildcats development sessions, which take place on Saturdays. Why did you decide to volunteer for HGFC? I’ve gained an enormous amount of knowledge over the years both playing and coaching in football. To be able to pass any of that onto budding future Lionesses gives me pleasure. Just to be able to improve their confidence, decision making and watch them make new friends is pleasing. I have been through the same process and have made friends both on and off the pitch. What experience do you bring to the role? I’ve played with and been coached by some very talented people, learnt from them and tried to take this on board, as well as developing my own style. I’m pleased I decided to return to coaching as the enjoyment and satisfaction I get from being involved has helped improve my overall wellbeing too. It’s great to have Ruby helping out as well - she’s about to take her Level 1 coaching qualification, if I can pass anything onto her to enable that then I’ll be happy. What does a typical Wildcats/development session look like? A typical session can look a bit chaotic at first! It may take a few minutes for the penny to drop and the girls have varying abilities. However, watching them work a problem out and solve it is brilliant. They know the answer, they just need to be confident in trying. Making mistakes and learning from them is something I encourage and there is no need to feel under pressure either. As long as they try, do their best, learn and above all have loads of fun, they will go far! What are you most looking forward to over the next months at HGFC? I’m hoping we will be able to develop a new U8s team for next season, there’s plenty of talent there to be able to do so!
